Remote Sensing Observations of the Phytoplankton Distribution in Lake Kinneret

چکیده
Reflectance spectra from 400 to 750 nm were measured in Lake Kinneret, when low phytoplankton stock prevailed, with chlorophyll concentrations from 3.1 to 7.3 pg/l. Algorithms for estimation of chlorophyll (CHL) concentration were devised using reflectances in the blue and green region of the spectrum and natural solar induced fluorescence. The fluorescence was calculated either from the reflectance height above a baseline drawn between 650 and 715 nm or between 670 and 730 nm, and also from the sum of reflectance above the base line through 670 and 730 nm. This paper presents experimental evidence showing that fluorescence can be successfully used as indicator of CHL content. Xey words: Radiance, optical properties.

Remote estimation of chlorophyll concentration in productive waters: Principals, algorithm development and validation
Most of the information pertaining to remote sensing of phytoplankton was developed for oligotrophic waters, where detritus and inorganic particles are scarce or their concentrations correlate with phytoplankton density. In our study we concentrated on inland and productive coastal waters, with the initial work done in Lake Kinneret, Israel. The primary objectives were: (1) to study the spectra...
متن کاملA Remote Sensing Approach to Estimate Vertical Profile Classes of Phytoplankton in a Eutrophic Lake
The extension and frequency of algal blooms in surface waters can be monitored using remote sensing techniques, yet knowledge of their vertical distribution is fundamental to determine total phytoplankton biomass and understanding temporal variability of surface conditions and the underwater light field. However, different vertical distribution classes of phytoplankton may occur in complex inla...
متن کاملMulti-Spectral Remote Sensing of Phytoplankton Pigment Absorption Properties in Cyanobacteria Bloom Waters: A Regional Example in the Western Basin of Lake Erie
Phytoplankton pigments absorb sunlight for photosynthesis, protect the chloroplast from damage caused by excess light energy, and influence the color of the water. Some pigments act as bio-markers and are important for separation of phytoplankton functional types. Among many efforts that have been made to obtain information on phytoplankton pigments from bio-optical properties, Gaussian curves ...

Phytoplankton plays an important role in the material cycle and energy flow of the ecosystem, Therefore in this study, the distribution, frequency, and biodiversity of phytoplankton in Elimalat Lake were investigated. Sampling was performed in Elimalat Lake sessonally, located in Nur City, Mazandaran province, in 2019. In this study, 70 species of phytoplankton were classified into 5 phylum ...

Urmia Lake is one of the two large hypersaline lakes in the world which have Artemia. It is located in northwest of Iran. Due to a decrease in water inflow and volume, the salinity of Urmia Lake has reached to more than 300 g.l-1 since 2001. The increased salinity has greatly influenced biological aspects of the lake, and caused the lake undergoes at critical conduction. The aim of the prese...
